INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS OF AIFO

The international interventions in the majority world of developing countries supported by AIFO include projects and micro-projects which focus in three main areas: leprosy control in an integrated primary health care setting; rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in community development setting; and community development projects focusing on children.  You can look at the AIFO annual report to read more about international projects supported by AIFO over the last year. You can also read the recent annual reports from some of the more significant projects supported by AIFO. This page provides general policy guidelines of AIFO regarding international projects.

  • A Project supported by AIFO is seen as a process for promoting development through a community approach, initiated in collaboration with local beneficiary population, focusing on poorer and needy persons, which involves and coordinates all the activities with different governmental and non-governmental actors present in the country. AIFO provides support for such projects for medium & long-term periods.

  • A Micro-project supported by AIFO is seen as an answer to the immediate needs of poorer and excluded population groups; the care and rehabilitation of persons affected by leprosy is a priority for the micro-projects supported by AIFO. AIFO prefers micro-projects, which are integrated in the community context, which promote self-sufficiency and participation of beneficiaries in all stages of project implementation.

In all its activities, AIFO is particularly sensitive to gender issues, to make sure that women and girls are privileged partners and beneficiaries in all its interventions.

Areas of work for AIFO: AIFO supports projects in developing countries mainly in activities related to health care. Leprosy integrated in primary health care including fight against some specific diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria is the priority area of work for AIFO. AIFO also supports community based rehabilitation programmes aimed at persons with physical and mental disabilities. AIFO also supports activities aimed at vulnerable and marginalised population groups such as children. You can find more information about these areas of work for AIFO, below on this page.

AIFO collaborates with international and European partners for many of its activities. It is officially recognised by ECHO for humanitarian aid and supports emergency projects in the countries where it is already active.

AIFO has security guidelines for the expatriate staff that can be downloaded (in PDF format).
