Roles and Challenges of Community Health Workers in Mongolia

Roles and challenges of community health workers (feldschers) in Mongolia: Mongolia is a huge country with very low population density. AIFO has been working with Ministry of Health, national federation of persons with disabilities and other partners in Mongolia, since 1992 for the National Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programme. Community-health workers play a key role in the CBR programme.

As part of a three years project for expanding CBR strategy in the nine eastern provinces of Mongolia, co-funded by European Commission, a research was carried out in Mongolia in September 2010 by a consultant (Ms. Eleena Como) for understanding the role and challenges of the community health workers (feldschers), who play a crucial role in bring CBR activities to persons with disabilities living in far flung areas.
