Multi-Country
Research on Training Needs of CBR workers Multi-country research on training needs of CBR workers: AIFO has been supporting community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programmes since 1988. In some countries CBR workers are paid full time workers, in other countries, they may have some other roles such as being health workers and school teachers, while being CBR worker is additional work to be done in their free time. In some CBR projects, unpaid community volunteers work as CBR workers. In 2008, the Disability and Rehabilitation team of the World Health Organisation (WHO/DAR) initiated the preparation of CBR Guidelines and proposed the framework of a CBR matrix. The CBR Matrix has five main areas of activities (health, education, livelihood, social and empowerment) for the CBR programmes. This multi-country research took inspiration from the CBR matrix to find out the opinions of CBR workers in different countries regarding their training needs. 13 projects from 7 countries participated in this research: Guyana, India (7 projects), Indonesia, Liberia, Mongolia, Pakistan and Somalia. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire in the beginning of 2009. A paper from this research was published in May 2011 issue of Journal of Disability, CBR and Inclusive Development.
