Welcome to the
online exhibition on Fr Damien de Veuster, the Patron Saint for
Human Rights. Fr Damien lived and worked among persons affected
with leprosy and died as a person affected with leprosy in Kalaupapa
in the Molokai island of Hawaii. This online exhibition presents
significant events from his life, the persons who lived and worked
with him in Kalaupapa, his canonization and about leprosy.
Most pictures used in
this exhibition have been created by creating two or more pictures
from different sources including curtsey of DFB, Hawaiian historical
society & Museum fur Volkerkunde Hamburg, Damien museum
archives, Hawaii state archives, Bishop museum archives, and a very
special acknowledgement for "Father Damien, a bit of taro, a
piece of fish and a glass of water" by Anwei & Henry Law.
This online exhibition
has been created by Dr Sunil Deepak, Medical Support Department,
AIFO (Italy) with contributions and images from different
persons and supporting organisations, on the occasion of the
Canonization of Fr Damien on 11 October 2009.
