written records While traditional healers in countries like India had been using herbal medicines such as Chaulmongra oil for treating the disease, the first modern drug to treat was Dapsone (Sulfone) discovered around the time of second world war. The first really effective treatment to cure leprosy, a combination of drugs called MDT, became available in early nineteen eighties.
