Having resided outside the United States for two decades, Oehrig has widespread ministry and program experience in more than 35 underdeveloped countries. He graduated from Houghton College in 1983 with a BA in History and Political Science and received his MA degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Connecticut in 1986. Working directly with faith-based partner organizations, Oehrig will strive to assure programmatic sustainability and bolster measurable impact. In addition, Oehrig will participate in international forums to enhance ALM’s position as one of the world’s primary leaders in the global campaign to eradicate leprosy, reduce stigma and provide holistic treatment to people affected with leprosy and Buruli ulcer.

ALM President, Christopher J. Doyle welcomes Oehrig’s transition into this new role and is especially optimistic about the impact it will have on ALM and the people the organization serves. “We are pleased to have Jim join our senior management team. He will bring a unique set of skills and abilities to the table and that will enable us to reach more people and deliver the cure with a more effective and integrated process,” he says.

American Leprosy Missions (ALM) is the oldest and largest organization in the United States devoted to restoring the lives of people affected by leprosy and related conditions worldwide through holistic cure and care. As a non-denominational Christian non-profit organization, ALM supports projects throughout Asia, Africa, and Latin America. As we continue forward, we move ever closer to our goal of completely eradicating leprosy while continuing to provide care to those who suffer from the ravages of this disease. ALM fights to bring hope to stigmatized people by employing holistic programs to combat and, whenever possible, reverse the physical, spiritual, socio-economic, and emotional burdens that strike those affected by these devastating diseases.
