A child with an extensive Buruli ulcer on the right leg. Buruli ulcer is caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans. It is called "Buruli" ulcer because a large number of cases were diagnosed in the Buruli county in Uganda in the nineteen sixties.

 

This aim of this course is to provide basic information about diagnosis and treatment of Mycobacterium ulcerans infection (also known as Buruli ulcer disease).

This course is based upon different books published by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Mycobacterium ulcerans infection. Similarly most of the pictures used in this course have been taken from different sources linked to WHO. Where possible, individual slides of this course acknowledge the origin of the pictures.
