Children
with disabilities often do not get opportunities to be with
others and to play together. Thus their bodies and their senses,
may not be able to develop to their full potential.
For example,
Piru has ten years and can not hear.
When Piru's
family realized that he could not hear, they had very little
interaction with him. His mother was very protective towards
him. He did not get opportunities to play with other children
or to go to school.
He was very
shy and everyone thought that he was not very intelligent.
They thought that his brain was slow, and that he could not do any
thing. He stayed isolated inside his house.
However, two
years ago, the CBR worker started visiting Piru's
home. She encouraged Piru to come out and play with other
children and to go to school. Now everyone knows that his
brain is not slow. He can read and write. He has learned to
communicate with sign language.
