Dear Salvatore,
As so often Dr Srinivasan
brings in an important issue. This time recurrent plantar ulceration.
It were the leprologists who
taught other disciplines (a.o. diabetes) how to care for the
neuropathic foot. Among those the knowledge expanded and became more
specialized for the diabetic or otherwise neuropathic foot.
With the changes in leprosy
control much of the expertise on leprosy is disappearing as you
yourself have often emphasized, among it the specific knowledge
on the leprosy foot.
I fully support Dr
Srinivasan’s plea for a training programme. Experts are still
present but many are about to retire or have to move to
other disciplines.
I hope one of the ILEP members
will respond.
