Leprosy mailing list – September 12th, 2005

Dear colleagues,

In the "Weekly Epidemiological Record" of WHO (26 August 2005) I read:

"The number of new cases detected globally has fallen by around 107 000 cases (21 % decrease) during 2004 compared with 2003. The decrease was mainly a result of the reduction in the number of new cases detected in India, where the detection declined by 29 % as compared with 2003."

What is the explanation of this decrease in India (29 % as compared with 2003), while, in others countries, the number of new cases detected doesn't decrease since twenty years?

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,

Dr Pierre BOBIN

General Secretary of Francophone Leprologists Association (ALLF)

Editor of the review "Le Bulletin de l'ALLF"
