Dear Dr Noto,
We are
greatly indebted to the experts on the subject for their erudite
comments on the above article, which was originally published in the
Journal of the Indian Medical Association (JIMA).
We would like
to make it clear that this article was meant for facilitating to induct the
General Practitioners
in
India
and was published with a specific mandate from the Government of India
to make the article as simple
as possible. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) in pursuance of
the policy of the government agreed to publish it in its official
organ viz. JIMA to reach the medical practitioners all over the
country. These practitioners are handling or may be handling the
patients at the primary level care in the declining phase of leprosy
characterized by widely varying endemicity. We even debated whether to
use terminologies like type I and type II reactions etc. It is by no
means meant to be a treatise on the subject. It was suggested that
this write up will also be helpful to the general practitioners in
leprosy endemic countries like
South America
, Africa etc. through the medium of Noto ‘LML’. This is by no means meant for
high scientific readers.
However, we
are studying the remarks from the experts on the basic aspects of
reactions, some of which are very enlightening to us. We presume that
these comments would be found very useful by your readers. We are
trying to offer our reply, based on our own experience in the subject
of Reactions.
