There seems
to be little relevant disagreement in the discussion on the issue of
foot ulcers. Some personal observations:
1.
To heal a foot ulcer is often the easiest part, but in keeping
the foot ulcer free lies the real challenge.
2.
Therefore the "ulcer-free" interval is often a better
parameter than the recurrence rate, for monitoring your programme.
3.
At the time of doing an amputation, the surgeon admits defeat.
4.
To do a
proper amputation is "an art”.
5.
Having an amputation stump of poor quality is no better
situation than having a chronic foot ulcer.
