Dear
Dr Noto,
It
would have been more appropriate for members like Dr Salafia who have
not received the invitation for the biennial conference of IAL (a
prestigious body of scientists) to contact the Association or the
Organizing Secretary of the conference.
We
wonder what is achieved by approaching the LML for ventilating his
grievance. We understand that the Organizing secretariat of the
conference has sent the invitations to all the members as per the
list. However it is possible that there could be some logistic or
operational reasons or some problems for non receipt of communication
to some which are beyond the control of the secretariat. In fact as a
member of IAL, he should be more concerned with the high standard of
the Association and can come forth with suggestions if any, for
improving its functioning.
As
regards the conference, the invitations have been sent twice by the
secretariat despite the financial constraints of the association. Even for the National Workshop
on “Legal Aspects of Leprosy” organized in Bombay in September
2004, the invitation was sent by courier to all the units in Bombay.
Now it is up to the members or those interested to attend or not.
So
despite all the odds and the constraints, the office bearers working
on honorary basis are trying to do their best for strengthening the
association. A member who is part of the association and who
wants to promote the association should volunteer to help it and
communicate in the proper forum, rather than voicing his or her
grievance to the LML.
We
hope the message is taken in the right perspective.
