I would be very grateful if you can pass on the following message about the POD conference to be held in Cebu in September.

 

Unfortunately, due to a technical hitch, any attempt to register for the conference through the ALM web-site before April 27^th did not lead to a record of the registration appearing in our office.  Anyone who registered in this way is requested to register again, now that the problem has been solved.  An alternative is to send an email directly to me psaunderson@leprosy.org or to Connie Bridgeman cbridgeman@leprosy.org

 

The conference is co-sponsored by ALM, WHO and ILEP.  It will take place from Sept 13^th – 16^th in Cebu, Philippines.  The registration fee of USD 500 covers the full cost of meals and accommodation for five nights at the Waterfront Hotel, Cebu.

 

The conference will address the following questions:

 

1. How can we make sure that people with reactions and neuritis are treated as early as possible?
2. What simple, practical and effective approaches can be standardized for field level workers to assist in the process of enablement, towards sustainable, home-based, self-care?
3. What are the pre-requisites for an effective footwear program?
4. For effective POD, what are the essential recording and reporting requirements?
5. What are the priorities for research in POD?

The Consensus Statement will be drawn up by a panel of experts, chaired by Prof Cairns Smith.
