I am adding some information about the question raised by Dr de Pinho Andrade's message (LML July 26th, 2006).

On April 24th, 2006, President Lula in Brazil launched a working group composed by representatives of 10 different State Ministries in Brazil to evaluate the present situation of residents in former leprosy hospital colonies in our country.

This working group has the mission to establish and to articulate inter ministry actions to promote civil rights for these individuals, as follows: access to working force, to education, to culture, to housing and to social benefits.

This working group is coordinated by Special Secretary of Human Rights and has representatives of 10 different State Ministries.  They have now 90 days to present a preliminary report.
