Leprosy mailing list – July 10th, 2006

Ref.:     Can leprosy skin lesions heal and disappear, under treatment, in 3-6 months?

From:   Naafs B., Munnekeburen, The Netherlands

Dear Salvatore,

Concerning the remark of Dr Latif Ahmad (LML July 7th 2006).

I thank him for his addition, indeed, Indeterminate patches may disappear and come back after years as MB leprosy also in non HIV infected patients.  But they may even come back as PB leprosy.  This has been documented in Bauru, Brazil by the late Dr Diltor Opromolla and I think I have seen it too.  But the longest continuous observation time for me in one place with endemic leprosy was only 5 years.  Dr Opromolla served over 40 years the patients at Instituto Lauro de Souze Lima.

With kind regards and thankful for what Dr Opromolla showed  me over the more than 15 years I visited him regularly.

Dr Ben Naafs
