the “elimination” of leprosy – Increasing prevalence in Andhra

Dear Sir,
I am a leprosy worker of
Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh in India. Our District Leprosy Officer
is in receipt of a letter from the Director of Health Services,
Hyderabad, AP, regarding Sustenance of elimination - Increasing trends
of PR. I am enclosing the letter for ready
reference.
While discussing the letter,
we were informed that necessary measures for regular validation should
be taken and also to find out the deficient PHCs that are showing problems which need urgent action.
The problem pertaining
to Karimnagar district is they are showing increasing trends of
prevalence as 0.71 in August, 0.74 in September and 0.78 in October.
The urgent action is
to remove the active cases from the register to reduce prevalence on
record.
I have the following
questions: Can we sustain “elimination” at all? The only way at present is not
to look for cases and register them.
Please advise if any other methods can be followed to sustain
“elimination”, keeping prevalence below 1/10,000.
