Cohort Study supports validity of monofilaments.

would like to say that I fully support the suggestions made by Dr. Wim
Brandsma (Brandsma W., LML Apr. 9th, 2006). In
addition, in my experience, coloured felt-tip pens for use in schools
are often available in small stationary shops, even if other more
sophisticated materials are not.
But then, this experience mainly relates to Asia and I realize
that the situation in Africa may be different. In the absence of coloured
pens, just go for numbers and a reduced selection of monofilaments.
One
additional comment is that our recent findings in the INFIR Cohort
Study do support the validity of the monofilaments and indicate that
changes in monofilament thresholds do reflect changes in sensory nerve
conduction and/or warm detection thresholds and/or vibration
perception thresholds.
