The article in the New York
Times attached to the LML (Bobin P Nov. 3rd, 2006)
is interesting.
Indeed, my colleague Dr. Ben
Naafs, a well known leprologist recently published an article about
this subject where he reported six cases in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The publication is together with Brazilian Dermatologist (Maria
Angela). Besides there
are also sporadic reports about the cross reacting antigens between
HIV and leprosy as well as cross reacting antibody Mycobacterium
leprae in HIV patient without any mycobacterial infection. Moreover the histopathology
and immuno-histopathology of any biopsy materials in expressed leprosy
in HIV patients are very scanty.
In my laboratory we will be interested to study these sample as
well as serology in these patients.
