Dr. Salvatore Noto,
I refer to Dr Ganapati’s message dated LML August 7th,
2007. Incidence of
leprosy has been reduced remarkably.
A doctor in a rural health clinic (30000 population) may have
less than 3 leprosy patients in a year.
May be one patient may develop complication (“reactions”)
in two or three years.
In this situation one cannot expect medical
professional to retain clinical skills to identify these conditions. Even if they identify they are
not likely to be confident of managing such episodes.
In my opinion LML is an ideal forum that comes in handy. It is easy to get help from
many experts. Telemedicine
has been popular nowadays but not easily accessible. But the LML forum offers
simple method to contact experts in the field. Experts like Dr. Ganapati
should enable present generation of medical professional in extending
the services to needy leprosy patients.
