Leprosy Mailing List – November 18th, 2007

Ref.:     Dapsone

From:   Annamma J., Dacca, Bangladesh

Dear Dr. Noto,

This is with reference to Dr. Salafia's letter about dapsone.  I am a dermatologist working with the Leprosy Mission in Calcutta for many years and recently in Bangladesh.  I have two questions:

1.
I find the incidence of the dapsone (DDS) Syndrome much higher in Nilphamari, Bangladesh than in India.  Given the similar racial origins what might be the explanation?

2.
I have used dapsone for acne, bullous pemphigoid and dermatitis herpetiformis, but would like to know more about its use in vitiligo.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Annamma John

Medical Advisor,

DBLM,

The Leprosy Mission Bangladesh.
