Salvatore,
Thank you very much for last LML messages on
classification of disabilities in the eye and corneal
hypoesthesia. I think Dr Saunderson (LML March 17th
2007) made a clear distinction between
W.H.O. global
information system and the patient's need for
assessment of corneal sensation.
About the latter I wish to thank particularly Dr Ebenezer for
underlining the unreliability (and potential damage to the corneal
epithelium) of the cotton wisp method.
Are there better alternatives? What to do for
early detection of loss of protective pain sensation in the eye?
If found,
early corneal hypoesthesia, should be noted as a risk factor
requiring vigilance, or should
be treated with corticosteroids?
