Leprosy Mailing List – March 22nd, 2007

Ref.:     Essential Leprosy texts (see attachment)

From:   Prickett I., London, UK

Dear Colleagues,

My name is Imogen Prickett.  I recently joined the ILEP Secretariat in London as the Technical and Information Coordinator.

Thank you to all those contributors who sent comments in response to the ILEP Technical Commission’s (ITC) request concerning the requirement for a new or revised textbook (posted on the Leprosy Mailing list, 21 July 2006).  After reviewing the feedback, there was no consensus and the ITC decided that there is no clear need for a new or revised text book.  It considered that sufficient teaching and learning material exists, but that greater efforts are required to promote the use and adaptation of this material.

However, the ITC would like to include on the ILEP website, a Grid of Essential texts for various groups of people working in the field of leprosy.  This list will include specific chapters from more general books.  The plan is to prepare a master grid for English language publications, and then also to prepare grids comprising material in Portuguese, French and Spanish.  Suggestions from the Leprosy community are welcome regarding suitable material for inclusion in these grids.

Please find attached the current version of the Grid of Essential texts, which is also posted on the ILEP website.

Regards,

Imogen
