Thank
you for the suggestion. I
am trying to find a surgeon who is working in
Europe
, who is well experienced in reconstructive surgery and has good
experience (and good results) in doing temporal muscle transfers
to correct lagophthalmos.
In
my experience it is most likely to be a surgeon who has good
experience in leprosy surgery, but not of necessity. The earlier
method used was that of Gillies, which unfortunately may leave a bulge
above the ear. I
personally prefer the
Johnston
method which attaches at the level of the maxillo-mandibilar joint and
produces a horizontal pull rather than a diagonal one. I started
doing this type of surgery 50 years ago but have not done one
for the last ten years! And
the patient is in Europe not
Australia
.
I
am no longer up to date with regard to who is still doing it and I
would like to find someone in
Europe
to whom we can send a non-leprosy patients for this type
of service. I would
appreciate any assistance from LML readers.
