Leprosy Mailing List – August 29th, 2010

Ref.:   Can drug used in leprosy (Clofazimine, Dapsone, Rifampicin and Prednisolone) cause hyponatraemia?

From: Lysbeth Duncan, Peebles , Scotland , UK

Dear Dr. Noto,

I refer to Mr
Adamou Idi’s message dated LML Aug. 23rd, 2010.  Having used the four drugs listed without seeing any evidence of hyponatraemia, personally I am not aware of this being a problem.

I do know that Rifampicin reduces the efficacy of prednisolone by 50%, as can oral contraceptives.  I shall forward this letter to a colleague who is a leprologist and Microbiologist in case he can help further.

Best regards,

Lysbeth Duncan
